The Abiola Bawuah Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation has donated about 150 dignity kits to school girls of Agorteyman M/A Basic School to commemorate the International Menstrual Hygiene Day. The donation included menstrual hygiene products consisting of Yazz sanitary pad, Yazz toothbrush, Lifebuoy soap and Rexona deodorant. This gesture from ABF was to educate more girls on how to manage themselves during their menstrual periods.
“Empowering girls is at the heart of ABF and the foundation is aware of the challenges young girls go through when they are in their menstrual period. Most of them lose precious school hours and this affects them in their education. This donation is to cut the head of this challenge off.”
The Headteacher of the school, Mr. Ketechie was happy that his school was chosen for such a commemoration. He, together with his colleague teachers thanked ABF for the donation of these dignity kits, emphasizing that the girls really needed them. They asked that ABF’s first visit would certainly not be the last to the school.
At the end, Mary, a 15-year-old pupil shared her excitement, saying, “I am very happy for these donations from ABF. We didn’t know something big was coming today until ABF arrived. With what I have been taught about menstruation, I am going to practice it so that I can be free from any disease.”
